Week One

Dear Parents, Family and Friends of Artspace:

Yesterday was our first day of the after-school art program at the Academy of Excellence. It was quite the success! Students spent the time exploring what it means to tell a story. They drew pictures of where they live and how they spent their weekend. The students took on the challenge of communicating their own stories through art. An interactive group exercise demonstrated the various ways we represent our ideas through art. When shown two different approaches to drawing and asked for their thoughts, students had many insightful observations. One said, "You can tell a story without words." Another, "It [the art piece] doesn't have to be perfect." We look forward to building on these initial discoveries. In future sessions, we will continue to explore the stories of life, our community and the built environment. We're excited to see what new discoveries we will make together!
